Blending influences from jazz standards and African music, Somi has built a career devoted to transatlantic sound and storytelling, gaining international acclaim as a vocalist and songwriter. Somi will perform songs from her latest album, Petite Afrique (2017), which tells the story of African immigrants in the midst of a gentrified Harlem, New York, and won a 2018 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album. This event is presented in collaboration with FarFetched, an independent music collective featuring an eclectic mix of national and St. Louis-based musicians and artists.
