EDGE of Orion Youth Theatre Presents: The Private Life of Private Molly by Jillian Leff

The Revolutionary War has broken out. People on all sides would join the fray. This hidden story tells of a woman who wanted to fight her own way.

The Revolutionary War is well under way, and its not looking too promising for the young, scrappy Continental Army.
Deborah Sampson is a typical young woman living in Middleborough, Massachusetts, except she can fire a gun really well. She decides the best way for her to support the war effort is to join the war.

Wearing borrowed clothes and using the name Robert Shurtliff, Deborah not only passes as a man, she is recruited into an elite unit. She then has to deal with being forced into battle quickly and hiding her secret. She goes to great lengths, including taking care of injuries by herself. However, when an illness almost kills her, her secret, her military career, and her life, falls into somebody elses hands.

The Private Life of Private Molly takes a look at one of the little known heroes of the Revolutionary War, proving that women belong on the battlefield just as much as men.
