Rex and the Rockabilly Kings - All About Elvis
What a full show - great music and a full length documentary on Elvis!
Rex Fowler of Aztec Two-Step fame has an exciting new show that pays homage to the legacy of Elvis, featuring his band Rex and The Rockabilly Kings performing early Elvis Classics. The Kings perform authentic renditions of Elvis Sun and early RCA Records classics from 1954 into the early 60s, with Rex leading the group on Elvis-style acoustic guitar, compelling lead vocals and historically accurate and often amusing song introductions. Hes backed by a dazzling 3-piece band featuring brothers Billy and Steven Muddy Roues on Scotty Moore-style electric guitar and Bill Black-style slap bass respectively. Muddy also plays a riveting blues harp solo on Mystery Train and both brothers sing their share of inspiring lead vocals. Joe Geary rounds out the band on good vibes and D. J. Fontana-style drums and percussion. The Roues brothers also contribute stirring Jordanaires-style harmonies that were an essential part of Elvis early sound.
Drawing from his Country roots and the African/American traditions of Gospel and Rhythm & Blues that were nurtured in the fertile soil of the Mississippi Delta, Elvis Aaron Presley intuitively created a revolutionary groundbreaking sound that had never been imagined before, inspiring artists such as John Lennon and Keith Richards to form their own bands, changing popular music forever. Elvis musical contribution, cultural impact, and artistic achievement made him an unsurpassed 20th century icon. Elvis defined Rock & Role: The sneer, the hair, the twisting knees, the thrusting hips, the Pink Cadillac. Dick Clark, American Bandstand
