Alexandra Smither with Trevor Chartrand
Named one of Canada's 2017 "Top 30 Under 30" Hot Classical Musicians, Canadian-British soprano Alexandra Smither is quickly making a name for herself in the world of old and new classical music.
In May of 2017 Ms. Smither swept the Eckhardt-Grammatté National Music Competition, taking home both First Place and Best Performance of the Commissioned Work, Nicole Lizees Malfunctionlieder. Her prize included a nationwide tour of Canada in fall of 2017 in which she performed a recital of contemporary works featuring Canadian composers. She has held fellowships at Songfest, Carnegie Hall, the Banff Centre, and Music Academy of the West. She was a 2017 Tanglewood Music Festival Fellow where she made her Seji Ozawa Hall debut alongside Emanuel Ax for a performance of Schuberts Der Hirt auf dem Felsen and has sung with acclaimed ensembles Ars Lyrica and Emmanuel Music.
For this performance, Smither will be joined by collaborative pianist Trevor Chartrand in a program entitled Love and Longing featuring songs by Poulenc, Schubert, Granados and others.
