Songwriters on Stage
Each month, the Maine Songwriters' Association presents Songwriters on Stage, a showcase of some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. The show typically features three seasoned performers and an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It's an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. The October concert features seasoned performers Kevin Libby, Karen Biser, Tom Ward, and emerging artist Troy Youngblood.
Kevin Libby Kevin grew up in Turner Maine, resided in Alabama for a time before coming back and making Fayette, Me. his current home. Though also playing blues and rock, country is what hes about. Kevins work reflects a classic honky-tonk style and the seasoning and genius that only come from lifes experiences. For the last forty-five years I have spent hours upon hours fitting rhyme and rhythm into the same space to paint a picture with my words. Kevin plays throughout Maine on stages big and small to enthusiastic audiences who always go away smiling.
Karen Biser Inspired by her rural Kansas roots to her present-day home in central Maine, Karen crafts songs blending folk, blues, and country into intimate stories and delivers them with a pure and melodic voice connecting at the heart level. Karens voice has a magical quality that captures a room and makes you hope the song wont end too soon.
Tom Ward Tom Ward is a songwriters songwriter with a distinctive guitar style and a voice weathered by the years. The songs are intensely personal while, at the same time, universal in appeal. His influences range from Kris Kristofferson to John Coltrane, but the sound is all his. Toms live performances, although rare, are powerful and moving.
EMERGING ARTIST Troy Youngblood comes to us by way of New Orleans. Currently living in Dover Foxcroft, he is establishing a wide circle of admirers with his smooth voice, imaginative songs and polished musicianship. Scott Hopkins of the Music Fest news writes of Troy "...honest American roots music... and Youngblood has a voice like few, if any, on the scene, deep, warm and rich."
