St. Lawrence String Quartet with Adrian Fung
The St. Lawrence String Quartet (SLSQ) is internationally recognized as one of the greatest ensembles of our time. Performing in halls the world over, from Carnegie Hall to the Barbican, the SLSQ was first presented by Music in the Morning in 1989. It went on to win both the Banff International String Quartet Competition and Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1992. Since then, the quartet has been delighting audiences with its spontaneous, passionate, and dynamic performances, fulfilling its mission: to bring every piece of music to the audience in vivid color, with pronounced communication and teamwork, and great respect to the composer.
In this season opening event, MITM audiences will find some familiar faces on stage -- former artistic director Barry Shiffman will be filling in for SLSQs violinist Owen Dalby who will be on parental leave. And current Executive Artistic Director and cellist Adrian Fung will join the quartet for the performance of the opening piece, Luigi Boccherinis Quintet in C Major. The SLSQ will also perform Tchaikovskys moving Quartet No. 3 in Eb-Minor, Op 30.
