The individual members of the widely traveled trio have created an evening of solo music. Violinist Rachel Patrick performs Claude Debussy's last major composition, his 1917 Sonata for Violin. Clarinetist Matthew Boyles performs a spectacular fantasy on Verdi's Rigoletto (hearing is believing), and pianist Ian Scarfe performs 5 pieces by Shostakovich. The trio then comes together to perform Gian Carlo Menotti wonderfully charming 1996 Trio for Violin, Clarinet and Piano.
The Vinifera Trio is comprised of clarinetist Matthew Boyles who has played in the Philadelphia, New Haven and Louisville symphony orchestras, Ian Scarfe of the Trinity Alps Chamber Players, and violinist Rachel Patrick who has served as concertmaster of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra (Germany) and the Bloomington and Birmingham symphony orchestras.
