Wilder than Wild Screening
Please join us on the one year anniversary of the Sonoma Valley fires to reflect and discover how to adapt to a wildfire prone environment.
"We are experiencing now the fires of the future. - CAL FIRE Chief, Ken Pimlott.
Wilder than Wild: Fire, Forests, and the Future reveals how fire suppression and climate change have exposed our forests and wildland-urban landscapes to large, high severity wildfires, while greenhouse gases released from these fires contribute to global warming.
In this one-hour documentary, filmmaker Kevin White takes us on a journey from the Rim Fire of 2013 to the wine country wildfires of 2017. Along the way, we learn how the proactive use of prescribed fire can reduce reliance on reactive fire suppression, we see a California tribe renew their tradition of cultural fire, and we meet stakeholder groups working with scientists and resource managers to build consensus on how to restore and manage the lands we love and depend on.
The film starts at 7 p.m., with light refreshments and wine served at 6 p.m. A thought-provoking panel discussion will follow the film, featuring noted fire ecologist Jared Childress; Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano, who helped guide emergency response during the several-day ordeal; Sonoma Ecology Center wildlife biologist Caitlin Cornwall; and White and the films producer, Steven Most. The panel will be moderated by legendary Bay Area guide Doug McConnell, former host of Bay Area Backroads and currently the host of NBCs OpenRoad.
