Goats in Space: A Creative Mind Knows No Borders
Silent Auction / Storytelling / Fundraiser Event
Join us for a very special collaborative Goats in Space auction! Wednesday, February 6th, (the first whole day of the Lunar New Year!) from 7-8:30 pm, $5 suggested donation (accepted online or at the door)
Gather some friends to see the donated art and meet some of the artists, hear a few powerful stories (including a special story told by a Telling Room student), and enjoy some Sunflower Farm products made with milk from their herd of 27 Nigerian Dwarf Goats.
The auction of Goats in Space art will be running through winter on Facebook, and we will complete the final bidding live and announce winners at Frontier. This is the perfect opportunity to score a super original Valentine's Day gift for your sweetie.
The Cafe in the adjoining room will be open for those attending. If you would like to come to the Restaurant for dinner and make it a full night out, please make a reservation in advance so you are sure to get a table and plenty of time to enjoy both dinner and the event.
You can find a link to the growing album of donated Goats in Space art and place initial bids in the comments here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2040286402668721&type=1&l=5af31319e0

The Telling Room is a nonprofit writing center in Portland, Maine, dedicated to the idea that children and young adults are natural storytellers. Focused on young writers ages 6 to 18, we seek to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and provide real audiences for our students. We believe that the power of creative expression can change our communities and prepare our youth for future success. We serve those who are reluctant to write as well as those who already identify as writers, including: children and young adults who are a part of Maines growing community of immigrants and refugees, those with emotional and behavioral challenges, students struggling in mainstream classrooms, homeschoolers enthusiastic to join a creative community, LBGTQ youth, and passionate young writers who need additional support beyond what their schools are able to provide. Sunflower Farm, home to 27 Nigerian Dwarf Goats, is one of a handful of No Cull commercial dairy goat farms in the state. It is common practice to cull or kill goats who do not serve a dairy operation to their fullest capacity. This might include all newborn bucklings (male baby goat), older dairy goats who are no longer fertile, and any goat who does not produce the desired amount of milk. We know first hand how hard it is for dairy operations to remain solvent. Culling practices can help farms increase their profit margin, save time and work towards genetics in a dairy herd that emphasizes high milk production. We have consciously chosen another path for our animals. We are working hard to prove that a farm can be both profitable and humane. We have kept second jobs as teachers so that we can explore ways to generate income on a small farm without the pressure of having to operate in a way that would take all the joy out of what we do. At Sunflower Farm, every goat born on the farm is named and valued and we cherish our animals long after their commercial productivity while providing them the very best feed, medical attention and love. We find great joy in sharing our lovely goat herd with visitors so that when they eat our chèvre or feta or caramels, they taste even better because they are remembering a sunny summer day in the field with our herd. Hopefully you can taste the love. Cumberland, Maine More at: http://www.sunflowerfarm.info/
