FFFEST PANEL: How to Fund Your Feature: Tips and Tricks from Established Women Producers

HOW TO FUND YOUR FEATURE: TIPS & TRICKS FROM PRODUCERS
PANELISTS: ALEX SAKS, KHALIAH NEAL, NATALIE FARREY & RACHEL SHANE

Moderated by Natalia Leite

Its common knowledge that making films costs money, but securing financing  especially for emerging filmmakers  is one of, if not the most mysterious elements of the filmmaking process. Knowing where to go to find the people who support and invest in independent films, and what to say to them when you finally meet them, often seems like a guarded secret. Whether you are looking for $1000 or $1 Million, for your first film or your fifth, getting the money you need without selling your soul can feel impossible. Thankfully this panel brings together several women who have years of experience finding financing for all kinds of projects to share their wisdom and demystify one of the most important parts of the filmmaking process.

Alex Saks runs June Pictures and most recently produced Book Club with Mary Steenburgen, Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, and Candice Bergen, the forthcoming Wildlife directed by Paul Dano and starring Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal, and the award-winning The Florida Project. Khaliah Neal worked at The Weinstein Company and Focus Features before striking out on her own as an independent producer. Her work includes the Sundance Lab supported documentary 25 to Life, and the highly anticipated feature film The Last Black Man in San Francisco (with A24 and Plan B Entertainment). Natalie Farrey acts as Head of Vice Studios, overseeing all development and production of Vice's films. Before that, she worked with Spike Jonze to produce films such as Her and Where the Wild Things Are. Rachel Shane is a producer and the COO at Mason Wells Media. Her films include Landline starring Jenny Slate, Hell or High Water starring Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges, and Divergent starring Shailene Woodley. This panel is moderated by Natalia Leite who wrote, directed and produced her first feature film Bare, which premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, and directed the 2017 SXSW Film Festival favorite, M.F.A.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early as screenings & panels will start on time.

FFFEST (Female Filmmakers Festival) is a 3-day screening and talk series celebrating women
