Come and explore the wonder of symphonic music in a program designed for "kids" from 3 to 103! Kids will also have an opportunity to Meet the Instruments up close after the performance with some "hands on" opportunities in the percussion family AND a conducting lesson with our Maestro.
This program is a sort of tasting event of a variety of works to engage people of all ages.
The concert begins with Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra", Used as a theme in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey". It's a piece that will definitely keep your attention and showcase brass & percussion instruments.
Next a contrast from Johann Strauss' well known "Blue Danube Waltz" will have you dancing in your seats.
Prelude & Fugue from Bloch's "Concerto Grosso No. 1" will exhibit more modern tonal music with old-fashioned notes. A piece written to help Bloch convince his college students of the usefulness of old techniques when writing 20th Century music.
Our EPO Young Artist Competition was held on October 17th, and we are thrilled to announce that 13 year-old Carson Ling-Efird, cellist, will be performing the first movement of the beloved Lalo Cello Concerto in d minor.
Scherzo & Finale from Tchaikovsky's well known 4th Symphony will keep your attention, and then you will have the opportunity to play with the orchestra in Leroy Anderson's beloved "Sleigh Ride".
