FFFEST PANEL: How to Balance Motherhood and Filmmaking

"Finding the optimum work-life balance as a mom, or as a filmmaker, is hard enough, but navigating both two extremely all-consuming endeavors is a real challenge. This panel brings together women in the film industry to share tales of difficulty and triumph and to offer advice to other filmmaker-parents, or those considering taking the leap to multi hyphenate themselves.
Lake Bells In A World, premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and her first child was born in 2014. Her latest film, I Do Until I Dont was released in 2017. María Novaro is a legendary Mexican filmmaker and feminist who began film school as a mother of two young children. Her first feature film, Lola, won the Silver Ariel Award for Best First Work in 1989, and she continues to make critically acclaimed films including Danzón (1991), The Good Herbs (2000), and Tesoros (2017). She is currently the Director of the Mexican Film Institute. Quyen Tran is a mother of two young children and cinematographer whos impressive body of work includes the Sony feature film Life In A Year (2018), starring Cara Delevingne and Jaden Smith, Behold My Heart (2018) starring Marisa Tomei and The Little Hours (2017) starring Alison Brie and Aubrey Plaza. She also lensed the upcoming HBO drama Here and Now. Christy Lamb, Co-Founder of Moms in Film, is an accomplished producer of films, festivals, and nonprofit programs currently producing narrative and documentary content through her company VENN INDUSTRIES. Moms-in-Film is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to providing parents in the film and television industry with community, funding and advocacy. In addition to hosting regular child-friendly meet-ups for parents and carers of all gender identities, they created The Wee Wagon - a mobile childcare unit designed for use on film sets."

FFFEST (Female Filmmakers Festival) is a 3-day screening and talk series celebrating women filmmakers taking place in LA October 12-14, 2018 at The Downtown Independent, founded by Passerbuys and Women & Film.
