FFFEST PANEL: How to Break Into the Industry...While Still Paying Rent
PANELISTS: CRYSTAL MOSELLE, NATALIA LEITE & MEERA MENON Moderated by Emily Yoshida, Film Critic at Vulture
Independent filmmaking certainly isnt a career choice for those looking to get rich quickly. It can be especially difficult to make a decent living when youd rather focus on making your first film. Join us for a conversation with incredible self-made filmmakers as they share stories from their beginnings in film, advice, tips, and real talk on how to stay afloat while navigating a new industry. The filmmakers on this panel come from varying backgrounds, finding their way to the independent film community through different routes, but each began their careers with major debuts and continue to make films on their own terms. Crystal Moselles latest film, Skate Kitchen, premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Previously she directed the documentary The Wolfpack, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Augustine Frizzells directorial feature debut, Never Goin Back, premiered at Sundance in 2018 and was recently released in theaters by A24. Natalia Leites M.F.A. premiered at SXSW 2017, and was released in theaters in October 2017. Her film debut, Bare, premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival and was released by IFC Films and Paramount Pictures.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes early as screenings & panels will start on time.
