CONCERT - SUNDAY NIGHT - PLEASANCE THEATRE - Scots Fiddle Festival
THE POOZIES
The ever-adventurous Poozies are back, showing off their fantastic new line-up and all new material, most of which makes up their hard-hitting new album Punch. Newbies Sarah McFadyen and Tia Files have joined founding member Mary Macmaster and long-term collaborator Eilidh Shaw, and together they continue to play a dazzling, joyfully eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional tunes with beefy, powerful accompaniment, while their perfectly executed songs vary dramatically from Gaelic waulking songs to old-time American, country and pop. They are a mischievous mix of musical mayhem, spellbinding showcase instrumentals and probably some frogs legs to boot unencumbered by conventional folk idioms Jon Bennet, folking.com.
SARAH-JANE SUMMERS & JUHANI SILVOLA
An impassioned, versatile musician, Sarah-Jane Summers was taught by the late, great Donald Riddell, who learnt his fiddling from a relative of hers, Alexander Grant of Battangorm. Now based in Norway, she has a masters degree in Norwegian traditional music and improvisation on Hardanger fiddle. Her recent album, SOLO, received fantastic reviews with The Strad praising her dazzling folk virtuoso. VIRR, her album of improvisations, was Album of the Year on BBC Radio 3s Late Junction. Here, she plays with one of Scandinavias premier guitarists, Juhani Silvola from Finland. Both of their albums received Top of the World status by Songlines. Captivating and exhilarating, they have won unanimous praise by critics and audiences alike.
