Marin Baroque Presents: Songs about Love, Sex and the Whole Damn Thing with Les Violettes
Marin Baroque Presents:
Les Violettes Trio in a concert of songs about their instruments about home/belonging, about losing in love, about love and sex, and about God/final rest.
Corey Carleton, Soprano, Violet Grgich, Harpsichord, and Colin Shipman, Viol will charm and entertain with this unique, beautiful, and moving concert.
The musicians met in the Early Music School at Indiana University and have been playing together since, championing the music of Buxtehude, Purcell and the French Baroque.
They got together a couple of years ago to play Baroque, Renaissance and contemporary popular songs to see if songs from separate eras, 400 years apart, hold up when compared to each other. What they discovered is that great songwriting is great in any era, and generates new insights when curated side by side. Old tired favorites become new favorites, and centuries-old song ideas and melodies become perceived as contemporary.
