Two treasures of the Boston music scene perform tonight at The Lizard Lounge.  Singer songwriter Dietrich Strause promises to assemble and amazing band with Billy Beard and Jon Bistline (of Session Americana) while the indie folk duo Hawthorn weave melodic layers into harmonies pulled from traditional folk roots.

Dietrich Strauses songs are a mix of timeless melody, literate lyricism, and a virtuosic command of imagery. (The Artery, WBUR) In less than one year Strause released two albums  How Cruel That Hunger Binds and Dietrich Strause & The Blue Ribbons. His blend of midcentury modern pop and atomic-age folk has drawn comparisons to M. Ward and a young Paul Simon and has garnered him invitations to support folk luminaries such as Sarah Jarosz and Anais Mitchell, to indie pop acts like Darlingside and Lake Street Dive.

"The sound is rich and adventurous and Strause proves himself to be a romantic, engaging lyricist and performer" R2 Magazine

"Captivating and evocative...be transported" Americana UK

"Timeless melody and a polished command of imagery...an outright beautiful odyssey, the grand nature of the production is fulfilling through the end." Impose Magazine

Little Stones to Break the Giants Heart reveals his knack for vivid, almost literary lyricism inflected by myth and metaphor. The songs boast a virtuosic command of imagery and wordplay WBUR, Bostons NPR News Station

HAWTHORN
The women of Hawthorn weave melodic layers into harmonies pulled from traditional folk roots. Their mutual love of the natural world, storytelling, and community moves them to create music colored by both external and internal landscapes. The Hawthorn tree, native to their own New England and their ancestral homelands of the British Isles, is said to be inhabited by the fairies, serving as a portal to the spirit world. Through the meeting of Heather and Taylors individual experiences, joined by bassist Alex Gasser and an evolving community of Bostons finest instrumentalists, Hawthorn creates magical blends of sound that are passionately full: of vibrancy, of tenderness, of strength.
