Crowdsourced Cookbooks: A Celebration of the Spiral-Bound Recipe Collections that Changed Midwestern Cookery Please join us for a presentation by Rebekah and Tim Graham of the new restaurant Twain about their extensive collection of spiral-bound cookbooks of the sort that have been produced by churches and womens auxiliaries and the like for the past hundred years or so. They are experts in how and why these cookbooks came together, why they are so important in the scope of culinary writing, and the cooking that they are doing at Twain is a direct link to celebrating the foodways of the Midwest. The discussion, moderated by Dame Stacey Ballis, will delve into the rich history of this type of cookbook, and will be followed by a reception hosted by Tim and Rebekah. Parts of their collection will be on display, and Dames should feel free to bring any of their own they would like to shareif you have one to donate to the collection, there just might be a special gift in it for you! Event open to Dames and their guests, a great event to bring a potential new member to. The $15 per person ticket price is being donated in full back to the Scholarship Fund by Rebekah and Tim, so we would love to have a great turnout for this event. Monday September 24, 2018 6:30-8:30 PM Twain Restaurant 2445 N Milwaukee Ave. Tickets are limited, and purchases will be cut off by Friday September 21 so that we can give the restaurant a proper headcount for food and beverage planning.
