Barbara Malley: From Brooklyn to Broadway
BARBARA ANN invites us into her reminiscences of 10 years in the Big City worlds of Cabaret and Commercials after 50 years of life in a Convent and the Classroom. In typical Irish fashion, she spins her tale in song and story, sometimes touching, sometimes comic. Barbara lets us know of her much-loved dual citizenship: the great isle of Manhattan and the City of Brooklyn (never just a borough, almost a country on its own). She invites us to live with her, the joys of music and laughter and even to join in a few choruses. So let's eat, drink and be merry together. Brooklyn born and bred, Barbara Malley was for years a teacher and later a licensed psychologist, but she says that theater was always in her blood. Her grandfather sang in vaudeville, and her parents met in the 20s as members of The Greenwich Village Players (Mom: musical theater, Dad: serious drama). After taking classes at HB Studio and Weist-Barron (just for fun), Barbara was signed by a manager, sold her house to move to Manhattan and began immersion into her New World. The rest is the story told in her new cabaret show: FROM BROOKLYN TO BROADWAY.
(About the show, "Out Of Order") "Malley confidently delivers each song in her pleasing, sturdy alto voice , successfully entertaining in old-school style no theatrics or riffs, but just giving the best that she's got, which is considerable." Kevin Scott Hall Bistro Awards August 16, 2013
"Barbara Malley, a pint-sized pixie of a woman possessing an outrageous sense of humor, great comic timing, and more energy than a rambunctious toddler, recently celebrated her 80th birthday with this, her fourth new show "Eat! Drink! Be Merry!" Billie Roe BWW Reviews March 12, 2015
(About the show "OMG!, Am I a Diva?") "Barbara Malley is pure delight. Her cabaret shows are fun, funny, highly entertaining, and have touching moments too." Rob Lester Nite Life Person of the Week October 18, 2016
