Where Shadow Chases Light
Kicking off the 16th season, Melodia presents "When Shadow Chases Light," featuring a world premiere commission work and women's choir treasures.
The centerpiece of the program is the world premiere of a commissioned work by Cevanne Horrocks-Hopiyian, exploring the life and writings of Zitkala-sa, a native American writer, musician, and activist. Also featured is Deanna Witkowski's work "Where Shadow Chases Light," winner of the 2016 ACDA Choral Contest; and works by Gyorgy Orban, Eric Whatacre and Gustav Holst.
Composers Horrocks-Hopiyian and Witkowski with be in attendance.
Conducted by Cynthia Powell, with Taisiya Pushkar, piano, and all-female string quartet.
Also performed on Sunday, November 18, 3pm, at West End Collegiate Church.
