Hanami Cherry Blossom Festival: Vegan Japanese Cuisine
Our Cherry Blossom Festival dinner features futomaki sushi rolls filled with fresh, seasonal ingredients, a classic sukiyaki Japanese hotpot, and tricolor ice cream as pretty as petals on a wet, black bough. Join the Urban Dinner Socials for four courses of vegan Japanese cuisine, cooked by the farmers who grew it.
Paper Crane Craft Activity: We're making cranes for peace! Your crane could wind up at Austin Fashion Week, too: http://thousandcranesofpeace.com
Traditions of hanami: Delicate cherry flowers are contemplated as a metaphor for life itself -- luminous and beautiful yet fleeting and ephemeral. Of course, some people are more interested in food than flowers at a hanami party! We offer our guests a meditative activity (origami) and tasty food at a friendly community table.
Sponsored by Whittier Backyard Farms, our Cherry Blossom Festival dinner is dedicated to health, peace, and community.
All-Vegan Menu:
- Futomaki Sushi Rolls Rice delicately seasoned with sweet vinegar, rolled in nori with avocado, daikon pickle, marinated mushroom, and other local seasonal specialties, with wasabi and tamari for dipping.
- Farm Fresh Miso Salad Whittier Backyard Farms lettuce tossed with our house miso dressing and topped with sesame seeds, seaweed, and wild mustard flowers.
- Sukiyaki Hotpot We make this hearty, home style Japanese dish with glass noodles, enoki, seasoned daikon, carrots, bok choy, tamari, and mirin.
- Three Ice Cream Flavors: Black Sesame, Raspberry, and Green Tea House-made with a cashew ice cream base.
