Anna Tivel http://www.annativel.com/ is a Portland -based songwriter who grounds her work in quiet stories of everyday struggle. Shes a keen and detailed observer, and the characters in her songs come alive in small moments of beauty and despair.
Anna Tivel's voice is somehow timid and commanding, sweet and edgy at once. Weve heard of dog whisperers and horse whisperers; Anna is a people whisperer. Her voice says, I dont have to shout; these are important ideas, so listen carefully. Raised among the ferns and the farmland of Northern Washington, Anna loved words long before they became the backbone of her music.
Anna's most recent album, Small Believer, was produced by guitar mastermind Austin Nevins (Josh Ritter, Anais Mitchell) and released in September of 2017. NPR praised the album, saying it repeatedly achieves this exquisite balance of the quotidian and the sublime with imagery that's deeply poetic. Her previous album, Heroes Waking Up was hailed by Folk Radio UK as "a superb and sublime album from a voice that deserves to be shouted from the highest rooftops.
Joining Anna for her Port Townsend tour stop is Seattle-based Jason McCue https://jasonmccue1.bandcamp.com/. It began in March of 2017, when McCue competed in the Museum of Popular Culture's Sound Off! competition for artists 21 and younger in the Pacific Northwest. Armed only with his dad's acoustic guitar and more than a few starkly provocative lyrics, Jason ended up impressing the competition's judges, comprised of Seattle music industry veterans, enough to earn him first place.

Northwind Arts Center welcomes Matt Miner Presents as a new partner in presenting live acoustic music in Port Townsend. MMP has been producing intimate concerts in the Portland area for thirteen years, specializing in presenting touring artists from across the country and around the world.
