Tipple (Frode Gjerstad, Kevin Norton, David Watson)
Tipple is a dynamic improvising trio consisting of players all known for their visceral sound and deep musical history. Tipple is a meeting point: Frode Gjerstad's projects in Norway reach back to his collaborating with the legendary John Stevens and Johnny Dyani. Besides his own work, New Yorker Kevin Norton is best known for his time with Fred Frith and Anthony Braxton. A godfather to much of the experimental music in New Zealand, in New York David Watson has worked with John Zorn, Lee Ranaldo, Ikue Mori and Phill Niblock, amongst others.
Tipple has released four CDs.
"This feels like a group thats evolving fast and still working out its language a kind
of relaxed discursiveness that suits the tough conversational style. There are few more
challenging role-models than that"
-Brian Morton, of The Wire)
"Right from the gitgo, this is tight, high-end improv at its most exciting. This trio is extremely well balanced and tight"
-Bruce Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery
