Cheval Sombre + War Violet, Pioneers
Cheval Sombre Cheval Sombre to do a rare, intimate NYC show to celebrate release of new, limited vinyl-only single Had Enough Blues on U.S. label Fat Elvis. According to Rough Trade, "Had Enough Blues is an otherworldly but world-weary rallying cry against everything bad in 2018; a political and personal howl of despair; a quiet revolution. Hitch A Ride is classic Cheval Sombre psychedelic folk from another dimension." Since self-titled debut lp appeared in 2009 followed by 2012s Mad Love along with a flurry of singles, Cheval Sombre takes a break from recording his 3rd full length album (due 2019) to do a special solo set. LP Dean Wareham vs. Cheval Sombre is expected this October as well. In terms of recordings and performance, as Last.fm puts it, Each of Cheval Sombre's songs is a sort of pacemaker. Lyrics crawl out of the vocalist's mouth forming a resounding anthem that doesn't march with climactic tension, but vibrates throughout the track with the unconscious nature of a heartbeat, softening the murmurs into a subtle rhythm. Copies of Had Enough Blues and other hard to find releases will available at the show.

War Violet What started out as a simple folk collection transformed into a lofty lo fi orchestral epic. Getaway was made to transport the senses as War Violet wanted to (like the title says) get away, and create a world shielded from the harshness of city life. She plays live with her friends as a four piece.

Pioneers Josh promotes his "Pioneers." Pioneers : a country album for the urban frontier. When the frontier grows, it makes more places to run away from and fewer places to run away to. This album is about that squeeze.
"Pioneers" combines the sonic palettes of country, bluegrass, R&B, neo-soul, and psychedelic rock into something not unlike Cosmic American Music -- a phase of 60's country whose bassists embraced R&B grooves and pedal steel players experimented with rock guitar effects. "Pioneers" works on acoustic instruments, through.
