COTE Building Tour - 650 Newport Center Drive Office Tower

Building tour of the 650 Newport Center Drive Office Tower, a 20-Story Class-A office building designed by Pei Cobb Freed and Partners for Irvine Company Office Properties, located at Newport Center in Newport Beach. The tour will showcase the nearly finished Office Tower which is expected to receive Silver Certification under the LEED 2009 Core & Shell program. The event will focus on urban design, sustainable strategies employed, as well as design considerations and general lessons-learned during the design and construction process.

Learning Units: 1 (HSW) Cost: $10 AIA Members $25 Non-members 48 Hour Cancellation Policy Brad Neal The Irvine Company VP Architecture Urban Planning and Design Brad Neal is Vice President of Architecture for The Irvine Company, a century-old, privately-held company best known for its comprehensive focus on quality of life in the balanced, sustainable communities it has planned and developed on The Irvine Ranch in Orange County, California. Since joining the company in September, 2001, Mr. Neal has been responsible for overseeing all aspects of architectural design for commercial projects for the company, including all office, retail, apartment and resort properties. His projects include the Pelican Hill Resort and Golf Club on the Newport Coast, the renovation of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, the 20/40 Pacifica office towers in Irvine, the 650 Newport Center 20-story office tower in Newport Beach and 880 West Broadway in San Diego, a proposed 34-story office tower. He has also been responsible for a number of office and retail property reinvestment renovations in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, including Fox Plaza in Century City, Fashion Island and Newport Gateway in Newport Beach and Symphony Towers in San Diego. Mr. Neal has practiced architecture for over 30 years and, in addition to having his own firm, has held senior positions with several well-known design firms in the Bay Area, including Director of Design at Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz in San Francisco and Design Principal at Ratcliff Architects in Emeryville. His professional experience includes responsibility for leading and managing the design and planning of institutional, corporate, commercial and mixed-use facilities for a variety of clients. Mr. Neal has also been active in architectural design education as both a lecturer and a faculty member at various professional schools including UC Berkeley and Cal Poly Pomona. His design work has been published in Sunset, Architectural Design, Architectural Record, Architectural Review and Modern Healthcare. Mr. Neal received his Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects. Nick Arambarri LPA, Inc. Project Manager Nick Arambarri is an Architect, LEED AP BD+C, and Project Manager at LPA, Inc., an integrated design firm in Irvine, California. As the Associate Architect for 650 Newport Center Drive working in conjunction with Pei Cobb Freed and Partners, Nick on behalf of LPA was responsible for the implementation of design concepts and sustainable features for the 20-story office tower. He also had a significant role in the planning of site and design of the parking facility. Nick has worked with Irvine Company Office Properties on various high rise office buildings for over 9 years, including 20 & 40 Pacifica in Irvine. LPA is building on a 35 year relationship with the Irvine Company designing various office, retail, resort, and community developments. Jason Knudson The Irvine Company - Office Properties Director of Development Jason Knudson, LEED AP BD+C, is Director of Development for Irvine Company Office Properties. In this role he oversees the development of new properties and reinvestment of the existing office assets within our Newport Center portfolio. His role includes coordinating and assuring the scope, schedule, budget and quality between the operations, leasing and design teams as well as executive management. Michael W. Bischoff, AIA, LEED AP PEI COBB FREED & PARTNERS, Architects LLP Partner A member of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners since 1992, Mr. Bischoff has contributed significantly to the firm's work for the last 20 years as a project architect and designer in a wide array of projects,including those for public and private corporations, educational institutions and commercial developers. In January of 2009, Mr. Bischoff joined the partnership of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners as a design partner. Prior to joining Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, Mr. Bischoff worked with the Spanish architect, Rafael Moneo, in Madrid, Spain, and the San Francisco office of SOM. In addition to his professional work experience, Mr. Bischoff has contributed as a design critic at Harvard and Princeton Universities and the Parsons School of Design and City College in New York. He received his architectural education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (M. Arch.'88) and the University of California at Berkeley (B. Arch.'84). He is a licensed architect in the States of New York and California and, as a LEED accredited professional, actively participates in the positioning of the firm as a leader in sustainable design practices.
