Building Wholesale Capacity
This workshop is presented by Midlands Food Alliance and the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association with Sarah Bostick presenting for CFSA.
The Workshop will help you: Assess whether or not wholesale is right for you. Decide what kind of wholesale is right for you. Design postharvest handling strategies to maximize efficiency, food safety, and workflow. Understand infrastructure, packaging, labeling, traceability, transporting and basic food safety norms to meet wholesale buyer requirements
Here is a brief synopsis of what will be taught in the workshop: Determining the type and scale of buyer that is good for you and your farm Things to consider and nail down before making the leap into wholesale Questions to ask a buyer before committing Tips for maintaining a good relationship with your buyers Basic food safety Post harvest handling infrastructure Calculating Price Point Communication with buyers Packaging Labelling Traceability Record Keeping Invoicing and Payment

Who: Central Midlands farmers, chefs, farm to institution & farm to school personnel, distributors, buyers, food writers, & local food leaders in the region. This event is not intended for the general public.
What: This will be a two way conversation between chefs, institutional buyers and farmers. The intention of for farmers to know what chefs & buyers need & want in order to sell to them - and for chefs & buyers to know what farmers need to be and do in order to market their products to them.
The setting is two panels. One for farmers and one for chefs & buyers. Both panels will have prepared remarks, and then well open it up for questions after each panel. When: The afternoon of October 8th, 2018 from 3:00 - 5:30 pm Cost is $25.00
This covers Little bites and libations before and after the event.
