AFRO DIAMONDS Dance Troupe with Reylin Myrthil
Join us for a day celebrating diversity in art, world music, and dance!
QUILT SHOW 10-4: The quilts in "Ordinary Saints" are reflections about people that the Sisters themselves have viewed as role models or who they felt made a great difference in their communities. The Sisters' employ not only color, pattern and shape, but also different materials and textures to convey their message. Please come and enjoy these quilts and talk to the Sisters about their work. The exhibit also celebrates All Saints Day and All Souls Day. It takes place in St. John's Parish Hall. Pie and cider will be available. Admission is free.
CONCERT 5-7: After the quilt show, enjoy a rousing and educational show at the St. John's Coffeehouse by the award-winning Afro Diamonds Ugandan dance troupe, accompanied by Berklee composer and violist Reylin Myrthil. The concert begins earlier than usual, at 5pm. The goal of Afro Diamonds is to bring cultural awareness to the audience. They love to connect with different people through the energy and passion they give while they dance, and to spread love through the positiveness of their dances. Reylin, a senior majoring in music at Mt. Holyoke College, delighted audiences last summer at Tanglewood. She was also the curator of the Sisters in Stitches quilt show at Mt. Holyoke, and is a member of the Association of Pan African Unity (APAU).
Advance purchase tickets for the concert are available at http://AfroDiamonds.bpt.me. Advance ticket buyers entered in raffle!
