DAVE TAMKIN : DICKIE at The Law Office
DICKIE is the latest outlet for Midwest songwriter/guitarist Dick Prall. Designed to allow Prall to work within a band setting, while still keeping a foot within his solo-driven career, DICKIE is the collaboration of Prall, multi-instrumentalist/co-producer/engineer Tim King, and violinist Kristina Priceman. The result is a collection of dark, gorgeous narratives for Pralls fifth full-length release. Threaded with beautiful string arrangements by Prall and King, the record comes in bellowing like a newborn, but settles into a pace of dynamic ebb and flow, ending with a Roy Orbison-styled recount of hopeful love that never bleeds into the saccharine.
Prall has a long history of fashioning accessible, viral tunes and inserting them with lilting melodies. It started with his first release Somewhere About Here, prompting No Depression magazine to dub his debut a track-by-track monster. His follow-up pop-laden record, Dressing Up the Failure, brought performances with Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), The Bottle Rockets, Bobby Bare Jr., Jon Brion, and Justin Townes Earle. Fizzlebuzzie gained further national and international attention with features in such media outlets as NME.com and Performing Songwriter magazine, proclaiming the record a box of chocolates for your ears. The instantly infectious Weightless found its single The Cornflakes Song on AAA radio and landed a spot on Paste Magazines CD compilation. Popmatters.com adding (Prall) crafts fault-free melodies. On the self-produced Inc. EP, lush vocals fuse with straightforward guitars to assemble five pop-fueled gems that earned comparisons ranging from Elvis Costello to Andrew Bird. His final pre-DICKIE venture was a studio collaboration with Pat Sansone (Wilco, Autumn Defense), that offered three whip-smart singles as golden online giveaways. Since forming DICKIE, the band has shared the stage with many national touring artists, including Young the Giant, Blind Pilot, Allen Stone, and Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), while the 2015 self-titled record was listed by Music Existence as Best Indie Rock Release as well as a Top 20 pick by Play B-Sides that same year.
Singer/Songwriter, Dave Tamkin, currently resides in Boulder, CO. He has created his own unique style of rhythmic-acoustic sounds that's based around a fresh musical vision. His shows vary from intimate solo acoustic performances to a full band experience encapsulating a mixture of personal lyrics and skilled songwriting set against a high-energy percussive backbone.
He's shared the stage with Guster, The Samples, Brendan James, Rusted Root, Donavon Frankenreiter, Butch Walker, Freddy Jones Band, Eric Hutchinson, Willy Porter, The Violent Femmes, and Peter Mulvey to name a few. Tamkin has a style that's hard to resist. His lyrics are unabashedly honest and his passion for playing is undying.
