Star City All Stars with Special Guests MPDB
Moon Pie was baked in 1972 with the original members being Randy Jones, Nancy Smith David Rutledge and Doug Neal. They had a first gig and the Buckaroo Bar in Ruidoso and needed a name. Moon Pie came up and Rutledge shouted out the word Daince and from then on it was the Daince band. Soon the band was joined by Scott Martin and soon after that by infamous R&B guitar player Jack Woodberry. The team of Jones, Neal, Rutledge and Woodberry still stands. Since 1972 quite a few great local players were members of Moon Pie including Dalton Powell for 7 years and Rod Crosby for almost 7 years in the. Others included Gary Duncan, Bobby Napier, John Harding, Nando Gallardo, Vince Martinez, Kenny Lawrence John Allan, Andre Casillas, Linda Piacinza, Tana Ladner, and from PT and the Cruisers --Patty Tiscareno.
Moon Pie put out 2 vinyl record albums in the 70s and 80s Enchanted Mesa and Flower in the Sand and had a #1 hit on local progressive country radio stations. They opened for over 100 name artists to include. Ricky Skaggs, Hank Williams Jr. America, Abba, Blue Sweede, Hoyt Axton, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Rabbitt, Patty Lovelace, Arlo Guthrie, Doug Kershaw Joe Ely just to name a few. And of course infamously opening for KISS. They were opening act on major tours with Emmy Lou Harris, Johnny Rodriquez, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. They backed up separately in shows comics Bob Newhart and Tim Conway as well as backing up John Belushi and Dan Ackroid (The Blues Bros). They were backed up by the El Paso Symphony Orchestra downtown for a pops concert being the featured act. They were featured and Music under the Stars. They had El Pasos first nationally televised MTV music video in 1982 produced by Charlie Steed.
