Kadazia Allen-Perry Spanaway, WA, USA 2017 1h 40m Festival - Local Sightings Film Festival 2018: Feature Films
About Kadazia Allen-Perrys autobiographical documentary follows her life and struggle against cystic fibrosis and the cold lack of sympathy from others, which has pushed her deep into a complex emotional contemplation of herself and her otherness. At one point jubilantly declaring herself an alien, she reflects on the complexity of growing up as a black woman condemned to a chronic illness. While her light does shine through, this film spares none of the truth of the chronic pain that characterizes her life. The film is radical, committing itself to an intricate overlaying of images and sounds, and in doing so expresses the directors emotional core that, beaten as it may be, remains in contrast to her circumstance.
