Within/Earshot Members-Only Festival Pass
Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is excited to announce the return of the wildly popular Within/Earshot Jazz Festival, a partnership with the legendary Earshot Jazz Festival. This festival will be a powerful immersion for music lovers of all ages and experiences into Americas most unique musical art form.
Limited passes are available. Once passes sell out, a limited number of single-event tickets will be made available to the public on Friday, August 31.
This festival pass is valued at $196 and is exclusively available to BIMA members. It includes five concerts, four lectures, and one film as listed below. Other free and pop-up events will be happening throughout the festival. More info here: biartmuseum.org/events/withinearshot/
PARTY Opening Night Pass Holder Reception / Sunday, October 7 / 6:30 pm Join us to celebrate the kick-off of the Within/Earshot Jazz Festival with an exclusive opening night reception at BIMA before the Gail Pettis Quartet performance.
CONCERTS Gail Pettis Quartet / Sunday, October 7 / 7:30pm Two-time winner of Vocalist of the Year by EarShot Jazz Society is pre-eminent jazz vocalist, Gail Pettis. Singing classic jazz standards with rich vocals in a retro air, she performs with vulnerability and a deep engagement with the audience.
Tom Collier Quartet / Sunday, October 14 / 7:30pm Internationally reputed in jazz, classical and pop circles is legendary master vibraphonist, marimbist & percussionist Tom Collier, who leads this top tier quartet. This performance features Bill Anschell on piano, Dan Dean on bass and Steve Korn on drums.
McTuff feat. Skerik / Saturday, October 20 / 7:30pm Hammond B 3 organist Joe Doria brings together some of the best of the northwest music scene to create a powerful and jaw-dropping funk and jazz sound. This performance features Skerik, well-known saxist known for his unconventional, bold style and DVonne Lewis on drums.
Wayne Horvitz The Snowghost Sessions / Saturday, October 27 / 7:30pm Keyboardist Wayne Horvitz, a tireless musical seeker essential to Seattle jazz, leads his Snowghost Trio (Geoff Harper, bass; Eric Eagle, drums) in These Hills of Glory (For String Quartet and Improvising Soloist)
!WEPA! / Friday, November 2 / 7:30pm Malo Castro brings infectious, danceable sounds from this Latin music quartet, who move with ease through Brazilian, Salsa, Swing, Blues, Cuban and Puerto Rican melodies.
LECTURES Jazz with Jim / Thursday, October 4, 11, 18 and 25 / All at 7:00pm From Louis Armstrong to Robert Glasper, this series teaches what to listen for, recognizing defining stylistic characteristics, while simultaneously placing the amazing music within its social and historical context. Jim tackles this vast territory through four lenses: Notable Big Bands; Notable Voices, Notable Instrumentalists and Composers, and Fusion.
FILM In Her Hands: Key Changes in Jazz / Thursday, November 1 / 7:00pm BIMA is proud to present the premiere of the newest jazz documentary by Director Kay Ray, an in-depth look at women artists in the contemporary jazz scene. Introduction by Ray and post-show discussion with the director and featured women jazz musicians.
