9th Annual Grand Victorian Homes Tour of Vallejo
Enjoy an ole fashion holiday time through the Victorian era and experience a tradition enjoyed by generations of families during the holidays: The Grand Victorian Homes Tour in the architectural historic district of Vallejo.

The Tour not only represents the prized architectural gems created by some of the finest architects in the Bay Area, but also its history and inhabitants from the Mare Island Naval Shipyard that inspired much of its growth and inspiration.

This year's homes date back from the mid-1800s to the 1900s, showcasing some of the most distinguished homes in the architectural historic district of Vallejo. From a well-preserved outstanding Italianate, a rare Georgian style mansion and a Classic Revival gem once owned by the son of Rear Admiral W.A. Kirkland, Commandant of Mare Island Naval Shipyard from 1896-1898.

There will be a Folk Victorian built in 1914 that was moved to its current location, and now completely remodeled and expanded but still with the architectural details, including a pyramidal hip roof with an eave extension over the front porch. There is also an outstanding example of the vernacular New England farm house style built by the Curtis family in 1856, the first Treasurer of the City of Vallejo. The artist Mary Curtis Richardson, known as the Mary Cassatt of the West, lived there as a child. There will be exquisite design examples of Vallejos best-known architect Will Jones.

There will be two additional twists: an early California bungalow that was transformed into an artists creation and dwelling with an unexpected delightful playground of color inside and out -- touching on all aspects of the interior with mosaics of china plates and others. There will also be an opportunity to visit a grand hall that once staged the great jazz performers of the 1930s-1950s with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington among others -- securing a place in Bay Area history.

From the festive Reception to the After-party at one of the Officers mansions on Mare Island, currently Vino Godfather Winery, it is a wonderful way to celebrate a Victorian holiday.

The 2-5pm Reception for the Tour will be hosted by Vino Godfather -- with live music & a variety of food from Vallejo merchants -- at the historic building that was once Vallejo's City Hall built in 1927 and designed by architect Charles Perry. It is now the Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum. The Museum's exhibits of the history of Vallejo will be open during the reception.

$35 Ticket includes:

Reception: 2-5pm at the Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum with live entertainment, food, wine, coffee & Tour Guide & Map provided. (NOTICE OPEN AN EXTRA HOUR EARLIER)

Self-Guided Tours: 3-7pm

After Party: 6-9pm (though last year actually went beyond 10pm)
