Attention all music lovers! A special Latin jazz & World Music fusion CD release concert with 5 time Emmy Award percussionist Emedin Rivera's Tropical Turbulence Quintet comes to the popular LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO Concert Series on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 8:00pm. The Tropical Turbulence accomplished music artists include; Bele Beledo on guitar, Ken Krege on piano, Premik Russell Tubbs on flute & sax, and Michael ViƱas on bass. The venue is located at MONDO, 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ. The audience is surrounded by inspiring fine art at this intimate and cozy venue as they enjoy a concert experience with some of the best of Latin jazz artists from NYC and beyond. 5 time Emmy Award winning percussionist Emedin Rivera was born in NYC and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Emedin started playing the bongos at the age of 8, and his exposure and passion for music came from his father and uncle who both played in a trio in Puerto Rico.
Emedin has a unique and creative ability to incorporate and blend his Latin, Caribbean and African influences into a vast array of musical styles. He has developed his own system of playing drums and congas simultaneously, mimicking the sound of three people performing. Emedin is well known for his sound effects, many of which are hand made by him. The sound effects can be heard on some of the National Geographic television shows.
Mr. Rivera has performed live with Harry Belafante, Gregory Hines, Paquito De Rivera, Vicky Sue Robinson, Angela Bofill, Gloria Gaynor, Ben E King, Dave Samuels, Dave Valentine, Andy Narell, Latoya Jackson, David Broza, Emeline Michel and Bernie Williams just to name a few.
He has recorded live with Larry Coryell, Bob James, Chuck Mangione, Nelson Rangell, Harry Belafonte, Maria Schneider, Rick Cua, Denise Williams, Albert Castiglia (Keeping on), Emeline Michel (Reine de Coeur), Blues Council (Let the Healing Begin), Paula Atherton (Inter Play), Lou Watson (Taking a Chance on Love), Thos Shipley (My Favorite Things), Clyde Criner (The Color of Dark) and many others.
Concert tickets are priced at $20 in advance / $25 at the door. Advance reservations & more info are also available by calling the Teatro Si box office at 908-301-9496 or purchase tickets in person at MONDO in Summit. We recommend enjoying a fine meal at one of several fine restaurants in downtown Summit before or after the show.
