Medicinal Herbs of the Beacon Food Forest
Join local herbalist and educator Natalie Hammerquist in this workshop on the identification, harvest and use of plant medicines at the food forest on beacon hill. The Beacon Food Forest has a wealth of medicinal plants growing which are available for the public to harvest. A few of these plants include: elderberry, mint, mugwort, motherwort, sage, rosemary, blue vervain, yarrow and more.

As we walk, we will learn the following about each plant we encounter:
- identifying characteristics
- when to harvest, how to harvest
- how to use medicinally
- what preparations are the best
- growing or propagating
- safety considerations

This is a fantastic primer for the food forest enthusiast, gardener or beginning herbalist who wants to gain practical skills in cultivated medicinal herbs.

Wednesday, September 26th, 5:30-7:30pm
MAX students: 20
COST: $35.00

BIO: Natalie runs the Adiantum School of Plant Medicine, a local herb school in Seattle, where she teaches classes on plant ID, medicine making, and holistic herbalism. She has spent several years acquiring and synthesizing knowledge about Western Herbalism, PNW Materia Medica, nutrition, and Chinese Medicine. She is particularly passionate about traditional assessment techniques, the effects of emotions on the physical body, and holistic models of understanding imbalance. She also loves to forage and grow medicinal plants of all kinds, because cultivating a direct relationship with the living plant is not only educational but very healing. All in all, she is an empiricist at heart who loves experimentation and exploration into the possibilities of nourishing and strengthening our bodies and souls.
