Dramatizing Memory with Conchi León
Conchi León, creator and director of Del Manantial de Corazón, leads a dramaturgical workshop that guides participants in an exploration of their personal stories and first memories through a performative lens. Working with George Perecs practice, "I remember", participants will generate stories, and then undergo a critical analysis of their writing in order to achieve a distance from their experiences, and re-position it as a form of dramatic literature that can be communicated with others.

All disciplines & skill levels welcome, max 12 participants
Dates: Sat Sept 29 & Sun Sept 30, 10am  3pm daily
Location: Aluna Theatre, 1 Wiltshire Avenue

Conchi León is a renowned playwright, actress and director from Yucatan, founder of the theater group Sa'as Tún. Her artistic career has been marked by the development of texts and testimonial montages that rescue the memory, tradition and customs of the Mayan culture, with a special focus on women. Mestiza Power, one of her most successful works, is part of the didactic anthology of Mexican theatre with presentations in different stages of Mexico and the United States, and was recognized in 2011 by the government of the state of Yucatan, for receiving its 500th performances.

This workshop is presented as part of RUTAS, an International Multi-Arts Festival, running Oct 3 - 14, 2018. Presented by Aluna Theatre in partnership with Native Earth Performing Arts.

Conchi León, creadora y directora de Del Manantial del Corazón, dirige un taller de dramaturgia que guía a los participantes en una exploración de sus historias personales y primeros recuerdos a través de una mirada performativa. Trabajando en base a la práctica de George Perec, Me Acuerdo, los participantes generarán historias y luego llevarán a cabo un análisis crítico de su escritura par así obtener distancia de sus experiencias, y reposicionarla como una forma de literatura dramática que puede ser comunicada con otros.

Conchi León es una reconocida dramaturga, actriz y directora de Yucatán, y fundadora de la compañía Teatral Saas Tún. Su carrera artística ha sido marcada por el desarrollo de textos y montajes testimoniales que rescatan la memoria, tradición y costumbres de la cultura maya, enfocándose especialmente en las mujeres. Mestiza Power, una de sus obras más exitosas, es parte de la antología didáctica de teatro mexicano, y ha sido presentada en diferentes escenarios en México y los Estados Unidos, y fue reconocida el año 2011 por el gobierno del Estado de Yucatán, momento en el cual cumplió 500 funciones.

Este taller se presenta como parte de RUTAS, un festival internacional multiartístico, del 3 al 14 de octubre de 2018. Presentado por Aluna Theatre en asociación con Native Earth Performing Arts.
