Songwriters on Stage
Each month, the Maine Songwriters' Association presents Songwriters on Stage, a showcase of some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. The show typically features three seasoned performers and an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It's an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. The September concert features seasoned performers Ed DesJardins, Jenny Van West, Scott Woodruff, and emerging artist Ronnie Mocciola.

Ed DesJardins moved to Maine full time in 2003 and became an integral part of the thriving music scene that drew him here. Though playing music most of his life, Maine is where he found himself as a songwriter and an artist. Ed serves as a solo performer, concert promoter, and a multi-instrumentalist, sideman, producer, and recording engineer to many of his fellow songwriters.Ed has two full length studio albums under his belt and performs with a diverse group of talented friends several times a month throughout the area.

As a singer she could easily succeed at any vocal style she pursued and would destroy (in a good way) the great American Songbook if she chose to. (Charlie Ricci, Bloggerhythms) Portland, ME-based singer-songwriter, Jenny Van Wests critically-acclaimed April 2018 release Happiness to Burn fuses folk, rock, swing, and country in this follow-up to her award-winning 2015 album, Something Real, and 2016 EP Honey & Hive. Van West also dug into the musical community of her hometown, founding the Maine Immigrant Musical Instrument Project and the International Open Mic. A soothing yet riveting stage presence with a voice engendering depth, compassion, and love, Van West has the ability to write songs that sound like instant classics.

Scott Woodruff, Mid-coast Maine singer/songwriter, relies on simple melodies and reflective lyrics to bring you to his viewpoint. His perspective on life is not unique and his music will strike a reminiscent chord within you. Musical influences root from artists such as Mark Knopfler, Bruce Cockburn, Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and John Hyatt. His love of music has taken him places he would have never thought possible. Scott has played dive bars to concert halls, backyards and bandstands to TV studios and radio studios as well as Frog Hollow Studio where he recorded his first CD, Them Old Bones. Working on his second CD these days Scott brings to his performances a mix of songs from both.

EMERGING ARTIST
Ronnie Mocciola, a native Mainer now living on Cousins Island in Yarmouth, Maine, has been writing songs since the age of 19.  He began writing songs for friends bands and continued his art over the years traveling throughout the US.  A lover of all things Maine, almost all Ronnies songs are set within a Maine landscape, whether in the deep woods or along the coast.  Musical influences are vast, and include Robert Hunter, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, John Prine, and the Beatles. Ronnie began writing songs for others to perform desperately wanting to follow the career footsteps of the Grateful Deads lyricist Robert Hunter; however, a switch has flipped and Ronnie is ready to perform his own music, and performs at small pubs, restaurants, and breweries around the greater Portland area.
