The Saint Andrew Chorale & Orchestra conclude their 54th season with two major works composed in England during the early 20th century. Vaughan Williams considered his "Sancta Civitas" (The Holy City) to be his favorite large choral work, written for double chorus, childrens chorus, soloists and a large orchestra, based on texts he selected from the book of Revelation. Originally conceived for performance on BBC radio, Benjamin Brittens "The World of the Spirit" for chorus, soloists, narrators, and orchestra is a piece of similarly large proportions, which was not heard in concert performance until 1998.
