Miriam and her granddad are making a cabaret together. Theyre the perfect double act: hes got the stories, she loves telling them, and they both have a flair for the theatrical. The only problem is they've never met. (He's been dead for 37 years.)
Jan Laco Kalina was a dramaturg, satirist, collector of jokes and writer of cabarets, born in Czechoslovakia in 1913. A Slovak Jew, he survived the fascists only to be imprisoned by the communists, who believed him a threat to the regime.
Digging through objects and stories from Laco's remarkable life, Miriam searches for her granddads voice through his own jokes, skits and songs, conjuring up an archival cabaret that reverberates with laughter from a very different place and time.
With original music and a live band of Slovaks, Rendezvous in Bratislava traces family connections across national, historical and political borders, and celebrates the power of laughter in troubled times.

The Lucky 7 Club is a 'Speakeasy' Club tucked away in the heart of Paignton (Devon) offering specialised live entertainment with a vintage twist. The Lucky 7 Club is hidden on the 1st floor in an old building with unique décor and is regrettably not accessible to those unable to climb the stairs leading up to the 1st floor.

It is very much a secret spot so here is how to find it!
Access is via Hyde Road in Paignton. Look for Ganges Indian Restaurant (33, Hyde Road, on the right hand side) Adjacent to the restaurant is a wall with a postbox and a metal gate, on either side of the gate there are signs saying Job Shop and Knights Framing go through the metal gate. This takes you into a BT yard, follow the building until you see an alleyway with The Lucky 7 sign down the alley is a door which will be manned by door staff.
