Crab Tree Farm Tour
The Chicago-Midwest Chapter of the ICAA is pleased to present a docent-guided tour of Crab Tree Farm. The 1.5-hour-long tour will be offered on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 9:30 AM.
Crab Tree Farm is the last operating farm located on Lake Michigan, in the State of Illinois. Originally a commercial dairy operation, it has had three owners in its one-hundred plus year history. Over the last thirty years, the farm buildings, designed by Solon S. Beman in 1911, have undergone extensive restorations and now house the premiere collection of American and English Arts and Crafts furniture and decorative arts objects in the country. An extensive collection of furniture by Gustav Stickley is housed in the buildings, also represented are the designers Charles Voysey, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and William Morris. The founding of Crab Tree Farm coincided with the peak of this movement in North America, at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The cost for the tour is $30 for members, $45 for non-members. Registration is required in advance, and space is extremely limited.
