Rain Perry's Cinderblock Bookshelves: 10 Year Anniversary Performance
NOTE: ONLINE TICKET SALES HAVE ENDED. We have added extra seating so there are a few seats available for tonight's show.
In 2008, Rain Perry premiered her play "Cinderblock Bookshelves," directed by Kim Maxwell, at Theater 150 in Ojai, California. It's been ten years, and now Rain is proud to revisit it as a benefit for The Townies, the non-profit parent of The Townies Podcast and Kim Maxwell Studio.
So much has happened since 2008 - not least of which is that the Thomas Fire raged through Ojai, affecting many lives, including Rain's: her music studio burned, along with the set for this play.
So Rain and Kim are approaching the piece with fresh ears and eyes, and hope you will join them at this very special weekend of benefit performances.
NOTE: This play contains hippie parenting references that may not be suitable for small children.
About Cinderblock Bookshelves:
Growing up in the 1960s, Rain Perry had the kind of childhood your grandparents warn you against. As a girl, she had to depend on a hippie dad with not enough money and too many girlfriends. She shared houses with roommates with names such as "Superman" and "Bear," wore hand-me-down clothes from other poor kids, ate rennet-less jack cheese sandwiches, and was told never to smoke pot - except with her dad.
Now, with characteristic good humor, she performs a theater show about her upbringing, having some fun with her hippie past, but also giving audiences a chance to hear in song exactly what it felt like - the joy and heartache of growing up a "wild child.
Directed by Kim Maxwell and produced by Sasha Heslip, with rockabilly legend Danny B. Harvey again moonlighting on guitar, Cinderblock Bookshelves enjoyed its World Premiere at Theater 150 in Ojai, California in 2008. Now she brings it to Kim Maxwell Studio on September 14th and 15th, 2018.
