Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show, now in its 11th year, that recently won Best Comedy Night by The Bay Area Reporter. The show, co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, mix of intelligent, progressively-minded comedians from the Bay Area and beyond. Geduldig created the event in 2008 order to bring back to life a comedy show that used to take place in the 1980s and 1990s at El Rio.
Please note: As of August, the show now takes place on the every 3rd Friday, rather than Thursday, of the month
The Friday August 17th show features Irene Tu, Ronn Vigh, Paco Romane, Sandra Risser, and Lisa Geduldig
Irene Tu is a Chicago-born, San Francisco-based stand up comedian, writer, and actor. In 2016, she was named one of the Bay Areas 11 Best Stand Up Comedians by the SFist and one of 20 Women to Watch by KQED. She has performed at SF Sketchfest, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Riot LA and her comedy has been featured on Seeso and Viceland. Irene hosts several popular comedy shows in the Bay Area: Man Haters, Hysteria, The Mission Position, and Millennials Ruin Everything (they do). www.irenetu.com
Ronn Vigh hits the stage with his brash attitude and acerbic wit that once earned him a comparison to a young Joan Rivers by The SF Weekly. They were certainly on to something, as Ronn later became a joke writer for Rivers on her E! Television show, Fashion Police. Equal parts edgy and endearing, Ronn performs regularly at comedy clubs, colleges and theaters across the nation. He has headlined Reno Gay Pride and performed at Lake Tahoe Gay & Lesbian WinterFest, Michigan ComedyFest, SF SketchFest, and more. Ronn enjoys watching football, hiking and eating carbs. While that makes him sound more masculine, he still gets called "ma'am" on the telephone at least once a week.
Paco Romane is a comedian, actor, writer, voice-over actor, improviser, multi-instrumentalist, and podcaster. He has appeared on Comedy Central, Drunk History, The Eric Andre Show, and wrote for The Gilbert Gottfried Roast. As a fast-as-lightening improviser, he is a frequent guest on The Todd Glass Show! As an actor, he has been in numerous films, TV shows, and commercials and is a sought after voice-over actor and is well known as the voice of Pandora Radio. He was twice voted Best Comedian in San Francisco by the SF Weekly and SF Bay Guardian. Paco has made countless festival appearances including Outside Lands Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, LaughFest, and many, many others. His comedy has been featured on Comedy Central, Huffington Post, Funny or Die, Cracked, Yahoo, and countless others.
Sandra Risser is smart, funny and older than Twinkies. The 70-something year old comic is eccentric, but not crazy, drives in the fast lane, and claims she can still bench press 500 grams. She headlines at casinos, wineries, and clubs throughout the Pacific states. The quick-witted and vibrant comedians credits include Comedy Day in San Francisco, the SheDot Comedy Festival in Toronto, Laughlin Festival in Nevada, and the Sacramento Comedy Festival. Sandra was the winner of Funny Fest, Killer Laughs, Go Baby Productions Winner Take All, and Battle of the Sexes Comedy Competitions. Using self-deprecating humor, she builds a unique bond with the audience as she shares stories about her own journey from youth to young adult to middle aged and beyond.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ (which celebrated its 25th Anniversary last December), Comedy Returns to El Rio, and the new monthly comedy show, Comedy at Ashkenaz! on the second Thursday of the month at Ashkenaz in Berkeley. Lisa moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
