Steve Butler (Smash Palace)

With their eleventh CD, Some Kind of Magic, produced by Grammy winner producer and engineer, William Wittman. Smash Palace delivers the perfect soundtrack for the autumn of 2015. The four rock n roll tracks represent the signature Butler brothers sound  60s jangle rock, 70s rock swagger, 80s power pop and 90s Brit rock  rolled into a contemporary 2015 style of its own.

The seventh Smash Palace release on Zip Records, Some Kind of Magic demonstrates Smash Palaces diverse rock prowess. Imagine that you are listening to four of your favorite songs even though you havent heard any of them before! Welcome to  Some Kind of Magic.  It WILL bring a smile to your face.

Band leaders Stephen and Brian Butler are joined by Fran Smith Jr. on bass and drummer David Uosikkinen (of the Hooters) and Cliff Hillis on guitar and Wally Smith playing the keys. Long time friends and bandmates from the Philadelphia area, the five musicians have created their finest work to date. Smash Palace will be touring extensively in support of the new release and revisiting favorites from the past.

Stephen and Brian Butler were first discovered by Hilly Kristal of NYCs original punk club, CBGBs and signed to Columbia Records and then reborn as Smash Palace and moved to Epic Records. The band released a self titled album that enjoyed MTV rotation and high profile tours. Smash Palace was on hiatus during the 90s as the Butler brothers went on to staff song writing positions at EMI and BMG. The band reformed and Art Herman of Zip Records signed the band after seeing their performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

a swath of British Invasion verve, an effortless blend moving with a catchy rock swagger thats infectious enough to require Cipro.
Chris Parker, Philadelphia Weekly

Smash Palace, a powerpop/ rock band with a 28 year pedigree still has the spirit and exuberance necessary for this tough to pull off style. Nice story in persistence too.
Ken Barnes, USA Today

The lions share of the credit goes to the Butler brothers razor sharp songwriting skills, particularly their ability to meld soaring pop melodies to clever (yet never cloying) lyrics.
Rick Schadelbauer, Amplifier Magazine
