Holly Near in Concert
Holly Near has been singing for a more equitable world for well over 50 creative years. She is an insightful storyteller through her music, committed to keeping the work rooted in contemporary activism.
Respected around the world for her music and activism, Holly will release her 31st album in 2018.
One of the most powerful, consistent, and outspoken singers of our time, her concerts elevate spirits and inspire activism. A skilled performer, Holly is an outspoken ambassador for peace who brings to the stage a unique integration of world consciousness, spiritual discovery, and theatricality.
Hollys joy and passion continue to inspire people to join in her celebration of the human spirit. Equally compelling at her shows and through recordings, Hollys music fully engages listeners in the world around themspeaking to anyone who believes in peace, justice, and feminism; a wonderful spectrum of humanity.
I do not separate my music from my heart nor do I separate my ideas from my daily life. I open myself up to learning as much as I can about humanity and this mysterious life experience, but I do not relate to political work as a series of causes. Moment by moment, I integrate what I learn into my personal life, personalizing my politics. It is from this personal place that I write my songs. Holly Near
Singing with Holly is TAMMY HALL, a remarkable force on keyboards. When not working with Holly, she's an instructor and mentor with many non-profit arts organizations making music and theatre accessible to under-funded inner-city children.
"A musician who has much to offer in the way of originality, fine technique and a rich, emotional quality that is evident in everything she does. Her playing is warm and persuasive and a listener's delight." - Marian McPartland, Piano Jazz
The 3rd of this trio of talented women musicians is bass guitarist JAN MARTINELLI. When not traveling with Holly, Jan is part of Wild Mango, a womens Latin band that moves from merengue to bolero to samba to funk with rich undertones of Middle Eastern spice. When not recording or touring, she sits in with a jazz big band.
