The Volunteers Jazz Band with Brad Terry
Fri Sept 7 | 8pm
Advance | $10
Day Of Show | $12

Four years ago, a group of professional musicians got together to play at no charge for veterans. From the wards at Togus, to veterans homes around the state, to the grand opening of the Travis Mills Veterans Retreat, to events sponsored by the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, The Vietnam era Seabees and many other organizations, to the Moving Wall at Fort Knox, and multiple receptions for the Blue Angels, the band demonstrates that music can make a difference.

This is more than a band. It's a team of musicians that bring their beliefs and talents to say thank you to those to whom we owe so much.

Occasionally, the band plays a concert with admission charged. A portion of those ticket sales is donated to a veterans organization.

Recently, the band recorded a live session at The Music Mill in Brunswick. A portion of the proceeds from that CD will also be donated to a veterans organization.

Brad Terry will be joining the Volunteers on stage to play some pieces that mean a lot to him and his legions of fans!

Brad grew up in Stamford, Connecticut, and these days presides over an international jazz career from his world headquarters in Bath, Maine. Among the notables he has played with are Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Swallow, Roger Kellaway, Red Mitchell, Lenny Breau, Buddy Tate and Buck Clayton. Brad travels regularly to Europe, where he performs and conducts workshops, particularly in Poland, where he works with young musical prodigies. Brad has helped to develop some wonderful Polish jazz musicians, who now, themselves, perform to appreciative audiences throughout Europe.

He plays the clarinet today because of the encouragement of a friend and Connecticut neighbor way back in his childhood, none other than one of the most famous clarinetists of them all, Benny Goodman. Through practice and performance, Brad began developing his musical abilities. As he began to show promise, he was taken under the wing of saxophonist and Basie Band member Buddy Tate, who took his young protegé into Harlem jazz clubs and got him up on bandstands with some of the days greatest jazz musicians

Come join the Volunteers, and their very special guest Brad Terry, as they celebrate music from multiple decades and genres; from big band, jazz, funk, blues, and rock and roll!
