Stephen Bennett - Finger-style Guitar Workshop
Workshop participants need to bring their guitar, capo, and a tuner. Personal recording devices are optional. Each participant will learn a song where they will be able to simultaneously play the bass line, rhythm, and melody, and more advanced players will be able to add a counter melody as well. This format prepares participants to utilize this technique to compose their own original pieces or formulate new arrangements for other songs. Tickets for the afternoon workshop are $20 on Brown Paper Tickets and $25 at the door. There is a limit of 20 participants for the workshop.
Stephen Bennett, one of the world's premiere performers on the harp guitar and also known for his versatile finger-style and flat-picking on the six-string guitar. Bennett consistently garners critical praise and audience enthusiasm for his recordings and live performances. With his stellar musicianship, relaxed stage presence and quick wit, Bennett has performed throughout the United States and Europe, as well as Australia and Japan.
A challenging teacher, a gifted composer, and a performer of "great sensitivity," Bennett is what the Toronto Finger-style Guitar Association referred to Bennett as "the Jedi Master of Finger-Style Guitar." He is the originator and host of the annual Harp Guitar Gathering which is now in its 16th year. He has composed music for full symphony orchestra and is highly regarded among his peers as one of the very best finger stylists in the world. Whatever guitar he happens to be playing, in live performance or on recordings, Stephen's life-long love affair with the sound of guitar strings is apparentand contagious!
