Empty Bowls: Fill the Need
On Sunday, May 19th, 2013 North Helpline Emergency Services and Food Bank will be hosting our 4th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser. The event will be held in the Commons at Nathan Hale, from noon to 3:00PM. Local restaurants will serve delicious soup, salad, bread, and dessert in uniquely crafted bowls. Local musicians will also provide lively entertainment. A hallmark of this event that our supporters look forward to each year is the silent auction.
Last year's Empty Bowls event we met our fundraising goal which enabled us to help keep our neighbors' families fed and housed who were in need. This year our goal is to build on last year's success to help us meet the rapidly growing need in our community.
North Helpline is a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating hunger and homelessness in the Greater North Seattle area. We are here to help our neighbors with their most basic needs while promoting dignity, self-respect, and hope.
North Helpline has three key programs:
1.Our Food Bank provides food and other basic essentials (including baby supplies such as formula and diapers) to over 1700 families each week. Each client receives on average 35 pounds of food and we provide culturally relevant food products for clients with ethnic or religious dietary restrictions.
2.Our Emergency Services Program provides rental and eviction support, utility shut-off prevention, transportation vouchers, and referrals to employment and educational resources.
3.Our Health Care Clinic in connection with RotaCare Medical Services and NeighborCare Health provides services ranging from acute care and health services screening to a long term healthcare home for managing chronic conditions.
Gifts of charity have increased thanks to our supportive community. However, we are struggling to keep pace with the need. We are more dedicated than ever to meeting the needs of our neighbors, and your help would make this possible. We pledge to be good stewards of your gifts, and commit ourselves to helping our community. Thank you!
