Hilltop Educator Institute Presents: Trauma Informed Care for Young Children Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 Facilitated by Jen Kamel
Overview:
In this interactive session, participants will be introduced to Trauma Informed Care, how trauma effects development and behavior, and how to intervene when interacting with traumatized children. Participants will learn about different types of trauma, how trauma affects the developing brain, protective factors to trauma, and what they can do to provide sensitive compassionate care to children who have experienced trauma.
This training will benefit a broad range of staff and professionals from education, healthcare, housing, child welfare, early childhood, judicial, law enforcement, systems of care, youth and family advocates, community and mental health services, as well as for people who have experienced trauma themselves.
About the Presenter
Jen Kamel is the Chief Clinical Officer at Amara, a child welfare agency. In that role she oversees the program areas that serve children in foster care. She has worked in the social work and mental health field for 20 years including working for Child Protective Services, community mental health, and as a school social worker. She is also a foster parent. Jen believes that children and families deserve to receive high quality early intervention to prevent out of home placement when possible and a clear path to permanency, preferably safe reunification, when it is necessary.
