Purcell & Friends: The Tempest
March 22 & 23 | St. Paul's Cathedral, 138 Tremont Street, Boston 8:00 PM Tickets: $60, $40 | $25 student/ senior
Long attributed to Henry Purcell, and more aptly named "Purcell & Friends," This adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest features the works of several composers: Pelham Humfrey, John Weldon, Matthew Locke, John Banister and Jean- Baptiste Lully among others. This work was written and re-written for the stage in at least four recognizable versions. Led by Ian Watson from the harpsichord, the Henry Purcell Society of Boston will re-create the work yet again- using music from the 1674 and 1786 versions and original narration by poet and dramaturg, Laurence Senelick.
