Event
The Reluctant Radical, Seattle Premier
Valve Turner Michael Foster is coming home early and were throwing a party! On August 15th we will welcome him home with celebration and a movie screening of The Reluctant Radical.
We are all looking forward to hearing about his experience and watching this film that features the Valve Turner action and many familiar faces from Seattle and the PNWs climate community. The film reveals both the personal costs and also the fulfillment that comes from following ones moral calling- even if that means breaking the law. Shed a tear, have a beer, and then stay for a Q&A with Michael and the Valve Turners.
We are also celebrating great news! Prosecutorial appeal of the Valve Turners right to present a Climate Necessity Defense was denied by Minnesota Supreme Court - which means straight to trial! This October, Emily Johnston, Annette Klapstein, Ben Joldersma, and filmmaker Steve Liptay will go to trial with the first Climate Necessity Defense ever argued in a US court.
This event is a joint fundraiser for the Valve Turner legal fund and 350 Seattle. The Valve Turners need to pay the usual trial expenses, plus transport and keep of expert witnesses in addition to ongoing legal costs and fees for the appeals of Michael and fellow valve-turners Leonard Higgins and Ken Ward. And since we also need much more climate action right now, this event will also fund the ongoing work of 350 Seattle.
Please share this event with your people and calendars. We hope youll join us in welcoming Michael home and celebrating the local and national impacts of our our people-powered movement!
