Transitions- An Evening of Tap Dance, choreographed and directed by Ryan Casey
Tap dance meets comedy, poetry, hip hop dance and more in this engaging evening of rhythm and narrative choreographed and directed by nationally recognized, 6'8" tap dancer Ryan P. Casey.
At turns thoughtful, satirical and humorous, "TRANSITIONS" is inspired by periods of change and personal development in Casey's life, boasting a soundtrack ranging from Dinah Washington and Tower of Power to Harry Connick, Jr. and Shel Silverstein. While "The Tall & Short of It" portrays the struggles and successes of his towering talent, "My Manhattan" lampoons his culture shock as a pilgrim to New York City. His former teacher, Kelly Kaleta, original cast member of Imagine Tap!, becomes his partner in a series of playful duets, "Just the Two of Us."
Casey previously appeared at The Dance Hall in last year's holiday spectacular, "Ring in the Rhythm." An alumnus and current faculty member of the Legacy Dance Company of Lexington, MA, he is a founding member of Dorrance Dance, tap marvel Michelle Dorrance's new company, in addition to a burgeoning solo career. He was the recipient of a YoungArts award from the National YoungArts Foundation, appeared on an episode of So You Think You Can Dance and was a student of the inaugural tap program at The School at Jacob's Pillow.
Excerpts from the show have been previously presented at such venues as the Massachusetts Dance Festival, Dance for Life Boston, Monkeyhouse Dance's "Against the Odds" Festival and The Steve Katsos Show.
