Flamenco, Performance and Poetry

Flamenco artists Lindsey Bourassa (dance), Bárbara Martínez (song) and Cristian Puig (guitar) will perform traditional flamenco pieces that showcase the integration of dance, song and guitar through flamenco styles such as Caña, Alegrias, Tientos and more. Their performance will highlight the cante (song) as the oldest and highest form within flamenco, to which all other elements respond, forming the foundation for the emotive quality of flamenco's 50+ styles. Flamenco verses can be understood as short poems that reflect the history, society and geography of the Spanish-Romani-Flamenco culture, as well as Spain and in particular Andalusia. Verses performed during the show will be printed and translated for the audience to highlight this vital and poetic element and its influence on the story unfolding in the dance and music.
